iDroid Controlled by your Smart Phone

05 April 2012

Smartphones are a staple device in most people’s pockets these days, and here we are with a toy that might just make you interested in picking up a smartphone if you haven’t done so already. The $249 iDroid which looks like some cheap Transformers design rip off is the first robot that can be controlled by smartphones. Your smartphone will connect to the iDroid via Bluetooth, and the free apps included will allow you to play the role of a digital puppet master. There are 9 motors in total for you to play around with, where it has joints that can move, and has the ability to annoy your co-workers by firing missles at their direction – one by one, or all in one fell swoop. The clipper itself is also useful to prevent Fido from getting his afternoon nap, and you have 6 levels of speed to select from. I would recommend getting a set of rechargeable AA batteries to run the iDroid though, since it sucks on half a dozen of those at once, bringing back days of the Sega Game Gear to mind.
